Greece rose from the dark ages in the 8th century,it is one of the oldest named civilizations. Athens has been inhabited since before 3000 bc, and during 1200 bc a great wall was built along the rocks edge. parts of the town traveled to the south of the citadel on the Acropolis. During the 6th century the city began to grow, the old primitive shrines were replaced with large stone temples, Which changed the Acropolis from a Citadel to a sanctuary.
The Persians captured and destroyed the city in 480 bc, the Acropolis building was burned and the houses in the lower part of the town were destroyed. When the Athenian returned the year after the tragedy they began to rebuild right away.They build the
fortifications and some secular buildings over the next 30 years,they left the Acropolis and the destroyed temples to remind them of the attack until they made peace which was in 449 bc.
Over the next 40 years the city developed its classical form.They began to build the Parthenon which started in 447 bc, it was finished 9 years later. The theatre of Dionysus was built in the 5th century was Athens theatre and drama center.
